PPMC says kerosene hoarding is the cause of high price

(Nigeria) Mr Nasir Imodagbe, Head Media Relations, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, on Thursday said that the hoarding of kerosene by oil marketers was responsible for the high price.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, Imodagbe said that government was making available enough kerosene at affordable price.
``Our findings show that only the NNPC and a few outlets sell kerosene at the government approved price of N50 per litre.
``Petroleum products marketers purchase the product from us at regulated price of N40.90k.
``By law, kerosene is not supposed to be sold above N50 to Nigerians,`` he said.
Imodagbe told NAN that it was the duty of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to enforce compliance to government approved price.
He said PPMC was supplying about 11 million litres of kerosene daily which were distributed by allocations to licensed marketers and NNPC retail outlets.
``We at PPMC have been ensuring that allocated petroleum products reach their designated points and to consumers. But, cost of kerosene is high in the market because some oil marketers are hoarding the product.
``They are also inflating its price, thereby undermining government efforts at making life worthwhile for the common man,`` he said.
Imodagbe said that the Federal Government would not relent on its efforts at making sure that enough kerosene was available.
Most filling stations in Lagos are selling a litre of kerosene between N150 and N200
